Hi !

I'm new to this tribe. I live in Sedona AZ but my family is from Budapest Hungary. Im particulary interested in any info on the surnames Konyha and Gabor. Im trying to research my geneology but little is known of my families history due to our family records being distroyed in the war.

    Hello Carrie,
My Mother's name is also Konyha,
Both her parents came over from Hungary with their families,
    We settled in Eastern Ohio,
I know about my Grandfather's brothers and sisters, but as for the family the next gen
back I'm not too sure, I know they were all very musicial, I've got old pictures from hungary
of what I think is a Gypsy wedding, actually all the photos of them I have incluse something
    musicial.

Anyway, Let me know if this helps.
by the way, the spelling is one letter off but Konya pronounced the same is a city in southern
    turkey.
    Peace out

I think (from what family tell me)
I'm a mix of Roma and Csango.
Many of the older folks don't like to get too specific,
because of the social stigma attached to being a member of those groups.
I play alittle cymbalium, violin,, mostly I'm a guitar guy.
I guess thats' americas common man's instrument.
        well, I'm rambling ,,
        LAter

Thanks so much for the info Bryan. I'd love to learn more of what you know as Im sure we are related. My greatgrandparents came to the US in around 1910 and settled in N.E Ohio too. My Greatgrandfather Lajos (Louis) and my Grandfather Wilhem (William) Konyha were both very talented violin players and singers. I thought you'de like to know that since you're profile mentions that you also play violin. there have been many musicians, artists and dancers in my family. I've always loved Hungarian gypsy music and am actually a professional bellydancer who loves performing Rom 'fusion' dance pieces.

I have often wondered about a possible Turkish connection because of our last name.

Hope to hear more from you....

      Carrie Konyha
