Re: in budapest next two days, any tips
Tue, March 21, 2006 - 10:58 AMMaybe checkout St Stepehn's Basilicum and the environs and walk around up to Vörösmarty Square and Váci Street - bit of a toursist trap though, but nice to stroll along... -

Re: in budapest next two days, any tips
Fri, March 24, 2006 - 8:38 AMoh, yeah -- you gotta check out the "Holy Right [hand]" -- the Szentt Jobb -- of St. Stephen (Istvan).
Used to be you dropped in a 20-ft coin and it would light up.
Well, a light came on.
Disneyland spoiled me -- I wanted it to wave at me or something. what a gyp!

Re: in budapest next two days, any tips
Tue, March 21, 2006 - 12:14 PMSzia Iris,
was in budapest last fall for an activist media conference
and wish i had had more time to check out the
new and old scenes....
for underground culture try:
Kultiplex!
a venue which is also home to the Tilos Radio community,
which is a bit like pirate cat in SF, only they are "officially"
ripping on the air:
caboodle.hu/index.php
kulti.webfocus.hu/vezerles/IndexOldal
and if yur into teahaz atmosphere...
there's some sweet spots not far from the Terror Museum...
from The Octagon intersection ( andrassy Ut + Terez korut )
turn left down Aradi Ut and then yur 1st right onto Jokai Ut
( there's one right there on the corner but if you keep walking
you'll find some a little off the beaten track)
also recommend getting lost on the streets of Pest on a bike...
or riding along the river on the Buda side.
you can rent one on Wesselenyi ut,
just up from the synagogue Nagy...
and it's a cafe w. internet too, but i forgot the name.
enjoy,
podp
